Baum for PCC Board
Geoffrey Baum for PCC Board Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2009

About Geoffrey L. Baum

Geoffrey L. Baum was elected to the governing board of the Pasadena Area Community College District in 2001. Geoff represents Trustee Area 1, which includes the City of La Cañada Flintridge, the west Pasadena neighborhoods of San Rafael and Linda Vista, and the western portions of Altadena. Baum served as PCC board president during 2005-06.

In recognition of his strong leadership at PCC and statewide, Geoff was recently confirmed with unanimous support to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. He is serving  a six-year term on the board, which sets policy and provides guidance for the 72 districts and 110 campuses of the California Community Colleges system.

Baum’s career spans higher education, journalism and community service. He works at the University of Southern California as managing director of the Center on Communication Leadership and Policy at the Annenberg School for Communication. He previously served as assistant dean of the Annenberg School and assistant vice president at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont. He has also worked in Washington, DC, helping citizens monitor the work of their elected officials as executive producer at C-SPAN, the national public affairs television network. As a community volunteer, he serves on the boards of the West Pasadena Residents Association, the Armory Center for the Arts and the Foothill Family Service advisory board.

Geoff holds an M.A. in journalism from USC and a B.A. in economics from Claremont McKenna College. He lives in Pasadena with his wife Lisa and daughter Amy.

Thank you for visiting my campaign web site.

I am seeking re-election to represent La Cañada Flintridge, Pasadena and Altadena on the governing board of the Pasadena Area Community College District.

PCC is at a crossroads. Community colleges throughout California are facing severe cuts in funding. We have been forced to make deep cuts that have jeopardized student access at a time when it is needed more than ever.

Despite these and other challenges, we must preserve the outstanding academic instruction and career training necessary to help students transfer to four-year universities or find good jobs in our rapidly changing economy.

I will continue my efforts to secure funding for critical programs and insist on prudent financial management and accountability of hard-earned taxpayer dollars.

In this election, I will work diligently to focus attention on the future of Pasadena City College. I will respectfully seek the support of voters in La Cañada Flintridge, Pasadena and Altadena with my message emphasizing quality instruction, service to the community, and sound fiscal management.
